Join us on May 19th for a spirited discussion of ethics issues faced in the project management arena, and possible solutions to those ethics issues.

Our panelists will give an overview of their experience in and interest in the field of Ethics in Project Management. There will be information on the PMI Code of Ethics presented.

We will gather questions and topics of interest from you in the audience during networking and dinner. Those topics will be the basis of the major part of the panelists' discussions, and will be relevant to your daily experience in the workplace.

Other topics that you could ask to have covered in the discussion include:

Speaker Bio's

Debra L. Miersma

Debra Miersma is a graduate of the 2002 class of PMI’s Leadership Institute and is currently serving as Chair of the PMI Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

In 2007 Debra served as Chair of the PMI Code of Ethics Implementation Advisory Committee and in 2005-2006 on the Ethics Standards Development Committee, which revised PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

Debra also served on the PMI Board of Directors as Secretary-Treasurer, as Chair of the Performance Oversight Committee, as Governance Committee member, and as Chair of the Board’s External Relations and Volunteer Involvement Committee.

Before this, Debra was President of PMI’s Assembly of Chapter Presidents and the Southwest Ohio Chapter.

Professionally, Debra works with for profit and not-for-profit companies to develop innovative new products and new lines of business. Most recently she was engaged with the Canadian Cancer Society assisting them in managing their merger with the National Cancer Institute of Canada. Besides her work with the PMI Educational Foundation, Debra also consults with several other non-profit organizations in managing a research project, managing a construction project, and operational assistance. Debra is an engineer and resides in Western Massachusetts.

 

Edward J. Pavur, Jr.

Edward J. Pavur, Jr. is Assessment Manager for Management Service, where he has worked since 1991. Edward’s projects support integrated selection, development, and evaluation systems. Edward’s consulting work includes the analysis of success and failure in management. He has served on the adjunct faculty of the business school at Tulane University and is currently on the adjunct faculty of the business school at the University at Albany.

Edward managed an apartment rental business prior to 2005, and is currently on the board of a Homeowners Association responsible for assessments, architectural control, and maintenance services.

Between 1985 and 1991 Edward served as Consultant and Senior Consultant in the Assessment Center Group at Development Dimensions International. He headed a unit that developed leadership assessment exercises, paper-and-pencil tests, and other selection tools. He managed assessment center programs, and supervised a test scoring service.

Edward is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and the Society of Psychologists in Management. He is on the editorial staff for The Psychologist-Manager Journal, and the Consulting Psychology Journal and is a reviewer for Personnel Psychology.

Edward Pavur received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Missouri, and a Post-doctorate in Industrial Psychology from Purdue University.

 

William G. Scarborough, J.D.   Vice President and General Counsel, Project Management Institute.

Past Experience: In private practice for 18 years prior to coming to PMI. Areas of practice included in Association Law, Antitrust and Commercial Transactions.

Membership and Activities: Serves on the Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Member in the American Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel and the American Society of Association Executives, where he serves on its Ethics Committee.

Speaking Experience: Numerous presentations at PMI Leadership Meetings on the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibilities, Intellectual Property Issues for Components and Component Board Member Legal Duties. Component workshops on issues of Board and Leadership Duties.

Articles and Interviews of Note: Collaborates with various PMI members on articles that have appeared in PMI Today and PM Net on topics of intellectual property, ethics and Board of Directors’ responsibilities. Participated on the drafting of the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
