In the past, every year in May we have had a construction tour that many have found difficult getting out of work early enough to make the tour (as the tours generally started around 5 pm) and for those that attended found themselves navigating through mud and obstacles. This year you won't have to rush around and your shoes will stay clean. We will bring a construction tour to you through digital photography. This year, our meeting is at Shaker Ridge.
The May program will be a virtual tour of the Construction Project underway at Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York. Sano-Rubin Construction Company is the Construction Manager for the project. Sano-Rubin was hired concurrently with the Architect, Envision Architects, and worked as a team with the owner and architect from early concept to bond vote approval to design development to bidding and now continuing throughout the construction phase.
Kenneth Rizzo, Senior Project Manager for Sano-Rubin is overseeing the project, will be making the presentation. The project is a multi-phased $41 million project to reconstruct the High School. The project includes 5 major additions totaling 65,000 SF (2 story stage addition, 2 story classroom addition, locker room addition and gym expansion, 2 library additions and a cafeteria addition) and complete renovation of every space in the existing school (238,000 SF). The work also includes complete roof replacement, complete window replacement, complete HVAC replacement, new electrical systems (fire alarm, phones, PA, etc.) as well as site and field work. As school must remain in session throughout the project, the work was sequenced into 10 phases, starting with an early site-work phase in the summer of 2002 with completion of phase 10 scheduled for September 2005. The work is currently in phase 4.
In addition to presenting the building project, Sano-Rubin will review some of the background behind school construction projects and what project management tools they use for managing such projects.
