Subject matter experts (SMEs) are often called upon to deliver training. Yet, while they are crackerjacks in their area of expertise, they do not always have the skills needed to develop and deliver an exciting, interactive training program. In a limited amount of time, how do you give them an understanding of how adults learn, as well as how to design and deliver effective training sessions? Sharon Gariepy will discuss a practical process to bring a program from conception through completion and, if your role is in training and development, how to help SMEs develop effective, interactive programs. The talk will emphasize needs analysis, a process where the exact training need is determined so that the training that is delivered fulfills that need.
Sharon Gariepy is the Director of Training for the NYS Division of the Budget. In that role, she regularly partners with her agency colleagues to deliver courses on the technical aspects of public sector budgeting. Under her direction, the Training Office delivers a myriad of programs to Division employees including classroom and custom e-learning programs to develop budget examination, support staff, supervisory / management, and professional development skills.
Sharon is an active contributor to the NYS Training Council and to many interagency sharing efforts. She has 17 years of State experience in both the Governor's Office and the Division of the Budget. She has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and French from Siena College and an MBA in Finance from SUNY Albany.
