Presented by:

Harvey Levine

Project Portfolio Management (PPM) is a significant advance over traditional PM methods, which focus primarily on doing projects well. PPM addresses the common problem of applying scarce resources to the wrong projects. PPM, therefore, goes beyond the art of "managing projects right" and focuses on "doing the right projects".

In a nutshell, the objective of PPM is to create the mix of projects most likely to support the achievement of the organization's goals, aligned with the preferred strategies, and within the organization's resource (people and funding) constraints.

This presentation shows how PPM bridges the gap between the projects and operations sides of the enterprise and discusses organizational issues to place PPM at the hub of an integrated process. It reviews the components of the project selection and prioritization process, including determination of value and benefits, the impact of risk, and allocation of scarce resources to projects. It goes on to discuss issues for managing the project portfolio and maintaining a portfolio aimed at realizing the maximum benefits.

Examples of methods and data charts, culled from recognized leaders in the PPM field, will be displayed. Mr. Levine's latest book "Project Portfolio Management, A Practical Guide to Selecting Projects, Managing Portfolios, and Maximizing Benefits", Jossey-Bass, was released in July, 2005. Copies will be available at the meeting.

This talk will be of special value to CEO's, COO's, CFO's, CIO's, Resource Managers and Strategic Planners.
