Based on a 2 year leave-of-absence from IBM, Steve Andersen PMP describes his experiences living in the world's 4th poorest country. Africa has 900 million people living on an average of less than $2 a day. The entire economy of sub-Sahara Africa is less than that of Chicago. Steve will share what it is like to live in such an environment.

In addition, he will share project management lessons learned based on his work with the Ministry of Economics and Finance, and a series of 12 informational interviews that he conducted with country directors of such agencies as CARE International, Save the Children, and the World Bank.

Welcome to the PMI Upstate
New York Chapter

30 Year Certificate

The Upstate New York Chapter of the Project Management Institute celebrated its 30th Anniversary this year. The chapter was founded in 1977 and is the seventh oldest chapter of the 250 chartered chapters throughout the world. The PMI Global Operations Center sent the chapter a certificate recognizing this significant milestone. This anniversary was marked by a special celebration at the September chapter meeting. We invited people who were instrumental during our beginning years and recognized their important contribution to the chapter. There were balloons and a toast to this major milestone by all attendees as well as a group picture of everyone who has contributed to the success of the chapter.

The UNY-PMI membership is comprised of about professionals from dozens of companies and a wide variety of industries. The diversity of the UNY Chapter provides an environment for learning about all aspects of project management and networking across industries.

We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (September thru November and January thru May) at The Italian American Community Center in Colonie (see directions).

These meetings are open to both members and guests - if you are joining us as a guest you can find information on the benefits of membership, on our How to Join page.

Also, by attending the monthly chapter meetings, attendees have the opportunity to earn 1 PDU towards maintaining their PMP Certification.
